Practice Player Frequently Asked Questions:
What type of committment is expected of the Practice Players?
Practice players are expected to attend all Varsity practices on days they have no youth hockey practice/games. On occasion, the coaching staff may invite some players to attend additional Varsity practices (as needed).
Can Practice Players get "called up" to play on the Varsity Team?
At the discretion of the coaching staff, practice players are eligible to be “called up” to the Varsity Team on either a part-time or full-time basis. Reasons may vary, but are not limited to, sickness, injury, etc.
This will depend on the “readiness” of that particular player. The booster club will handle all financial obligations on a “per game” basis. In the event a player is “called up” (i.e. back-up goaltender) but does not play, the player will not be charged a game fee.
Can Practice Players use the Varsity Locker Room?
Practice Players are welcome to store their equipment in the Varsity locker room between consecutive days they will be attending Varsity practice. Practice Players will not receive an access code to the locker room facility and will not be able to retrieve their equipment on days that the team is not at CPA. FYI, for security purposes, all Varsity players have been instructed NOT to share their codes with anyone. Please plan accordingly.
Does the school provide transportation to practice each day?
Yes, Practice Players are expected to ride the shuttle bus from school to practice. Players can store their hockey bags/sticks in the storage area near the gym. Please make arrangements with a PE teacher. Shuttle bus drivers will allow the equipment on the bus. Bus will depart HSE by 2:50 before heading to HSW. Please be prompt.
What type of equipment does the school provide Practice Players with?
Practice Players will receive a green helmet and a practice uniform (Socks, jerseys, shells & bag). For inventory purposes, we may provide each player with his/her own jersey number. All equipment and uniforms are property of the Shen Hockey Team and should be left in the varsity locker room after each practice.
Practice Players are welcome to purchase team gloves (Bauer Nexus; green).
Do Practice Players attend Media Day?
Practice players are welcome to attend Media Day but will not be included in the team picture. We will use this time to take individual & group pictures to be included in the Media Guide.
Are Practice Players expected to attend Varsity games?
Practice Players are encouraged to attend all home & away games when available. There is a lot that goes on at each game (video, stats, equipment, etc.) and we can definitely use their help. More importantly, any early exposure to “the Shen way” would be beneficial to their development as a future player in our program.
Overnight trips will be handled on an individual basis and will incur some additional costs (charter bus, hotel, food, etc.).
